The short answer

A private picnic on Main Beach

Soulful Passions sets up a private, styled picnic on Main Beach for three hours: a low table with decorations, cushions and rugs, plates, cutlery and linen, champagne flutes and water glasses, and grazing platters, with dietary needs catered for. They set up, pack down and clean up.

The listing includes glasses but does not list drinks, so check what you may bring and whether alcohol is allowed on the beach. It gives no exact spot; confirm it after booking. No pets or smoking. Bring hats, sunscreen and swimwear; Main Beach has lifeguards all year, five days a week, according to Byron Shire Council.

On the river: sunset or long lunch

M.V. Jasmine runs two adults-only cruises from Brunswick Heads harbour. The three-hour sunset cruise has a welcome prosecco, a cheese board, canapés and DJs, in a standing, cocktail-style format; no high heels. The three-hour long lunch serves eight courses and dessert, with paired drinks as an extra. Neither includes transport to Brunswick Heads as standard.

A slower day

Byron Yoga Centre’s five-and-a-half-hour morning includes a workshop that changes by day, a 90-minute slow yoga flow, a vegetarian lunch, a 60-minute cedar sauna and time in a heated mineral salt pool and the gardens. It is outside the town centre, at 50 Skinners Shoot Road, and transfers are not included. Ages 16 and up.

For something creative, local artist Katie Grubb’s alcohol-ink workshop lists couples among the people it suits, and can come to your accommodation. See rainy-day ideas for details.

Something to talk about afterwards

Tandem skydives are one person per instructor, so a couple books two jumps on the same slot. Skydive Australia’s jump goes up to 15,000 feet with up to 60 seconds of freefall, and lands beachside near Byron. Ages 16 and up, up to 110 kg, with a surcharge above 94 kg.

Less extreme: the evening glow-worm e-bike tour, or a brewery and distillery day for two. See the skydiving guide, glow worms and brewery tours.

A creative afternoon

Local artist Katie Grubb’s alcohol-ink workshop lists couples among the people it suits. The core session is about two and a half hours, with three set aside, at your accommodation anywhere in the Byron region or at her studio in South Golden Beach. All materials are supplied and you each take your artwork home. Food and drinks are not included, so bring your own, and wear clothes that can get dirty.
