Beaches for little ones
Visit NSW describes Main Beach as having gentle waves, lifeguards all year and a playground next door, which makes it the easiest family beach in town. Byron Shire Council confirms Main Beach lifeguards work five days a week, all year. Clarkes Beach, at the southern end, has low waves and rock pools but is patrolled only in peak periods. For the very youngest, Visit NSW says Torakina Beach at Brunswick Heads, behind the river breakwall, is calm enough for the littlest swimmers. Swim between the flags; our beach safety guide covers rips.

No minimum age stated
These listings set no age limit: the hinterland and Bangalow day, the Cape Byron Aboriginal walk, the full-day wildlife safari, the Tesla sanctuary tour, Haven Gallery and the Ballina whale cruise. No stated limit is not the same as suitable for a toddler, so ask the operator, and think about the length of the day: the safari runs seven hours.
