Mind the clock
Queensland does not use daylight saving; NSW does, from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April. In those months Byron is an hour ahead of the Gold Coast, so a 9 am Byron tour starts at 8 am Gold Coast time. Read every listing time as local to where the tour starts. The time difference explained.
A private day tour
Gold Coast Private Tours runs a private day to Byron for up to four guests, with door-to-door pickup and drop-off and a personal local guide. The listing gives six to eight hours. It includes a guided visit to Cape Byron Lighthouse, free time in town for shops, beaches or lunch (with restaurant booking help on request), complimentary refreshments and bottled water, and scenic stops on the southern Gold Coast on the way back, such as Snapper Rocks. The itinerary is flexible, so you can spend longer where you like.
The listing’s web address mentions a Tesla, but its description says only a premium private vehicle, so do not count on the car.

Surfing International’s nine-hour day leaves Surfers Paradise in the morning. The surf lesson is at Kingscliff, on the Tweed Coast, not in Byron: coffee while the instructors set up, then a beginner lesson with board, wetsuit and rash vest supplied. You then head to Byron for lunch, time in the town centre and on Main Beach, and Little Wategos. As sunset approaches you walk to lookouts including the most easterly point and finish at the lighthouse.
Van pickup and drop-off, the lesson and the Byron tour are included; lunch is not listed as included, so budget for it. Non-swimmers are excluded and strollers are not allowed. The departure time can move with ocean conditions; if you cannot make the new time, the listing promises a refund.

E-bike and distillery lunch
Better By Bike’s seven-hour rail-trail day picks up from Gold Coast, Byron Bay and Tweed Coast accommodation within about 15 km of its service areas, so check your address. You ride two hours, self-guided, through hinterland and a rail tunnel to Burringbar, then taste seven spirits and eat a three-course lunch at Husk Farm Distillery. Adults only. See the e-bike and distillery day on GetYourGuide (opens in a new tab).
Driving yourself
Visit NSW puts Gold Coast Airport about 45 minutes’ drive from Byron. With your own car, you can book tours that meet in Byron. The sea kayak tour on GetYourGuide (opens in a new tab) meets on Main Beach and takes about two and a half hours, and the lighthouse walk is free. Parking at The Pass and the lighthouse is paid by the hour and limited at weekends, according to NSW National Parks.
